National Dental Hygienists Week
April is Oral Health Month in Canada. And this week is National Dental Hygienist Week!
Dental Hygienists are an important part of your oral health team. Within the dental setting we all play different roles and work together to make your mouth the best it can be.
Dental hygienists are a vital part of helping to keep mouths healthy long term. Dental hygienists are trained to remove stubborn tartar with very sharp instruments all while keeping the remaining tissues safe. They are also trained in education and public health. Dental hygienists are members of the oral health team that often spend the most individual time with patients. We see the patients mouths and what is going on before the ‘cleaning’. We are educated through an intensive program that focuses on overall health of the mouth, gums, teeth and body. We care about your mouths because we have seen what happens if gum disease gets out of control. We have a deep understanding of the soft tissues in the mouth and believe in offering the best treatment and education to our patients to keep their mouths healthy for life.
If you see your Dental Hygienist this week or month, ask them any questions you may have. We are happy to discuss anything further, take intra-oral photos or demonstrate brushing and flossing techniques to help you improve your oral health.
